Michael Jackson, the life and times
Michael Jackson

Everyone seemed shocked about the passing of MJ, even though he had been looking very ill for a long time. A bit of a sad note to start with but it is obvious the great singer/entertainer has been going through rough times with his health. The name Michael Jackson is so colossal that despite the numerous changes he went through such as; his abnormality as well as his numerous fall outs with regards to the law and his closeness with children. It is safe to say that the media has created someone else from the Michael Jackson we grew know and somewhat love. How many of you cried when you found out that he passed away?

Many of us grew up with the star from the Jackson 5 days to the several top selling albums such as 'Thriller' and 'Bad'. I was born around the time of 'Thriller', and he was already a legend by then, which showed how successful his career was.

The Genius Michael with his unique singing voice and catchy melodies captivated us for decades and will continue to do so for years to come. One of my favourite songs if not the number one favourite is done by the legend, I'm sure all of you reading this knows the song Billie Jean and like it just the same.

All of what I just said is nothing new to the average person so what I want to mention today is the fact that there was two Michael Jacksons. I'm not talking about the numerous impersonators, we had Michael Jackson the great singer, dancer and entertainer then we had Michael, the insecure child, who probably did not have a childhood, which many could say lead him to try and live that childhood over again with his 'Neverland' ranch, his high tone when he speaks and the infamous stories of his relationships with children, particularly young boys, even his famous friendship with a monkey bubbles is a few of the stories which saw MJ in a different light. In all actuality, whether we want to admit this or not, the superstar turned out to be a weirdo for all of us to see and it seems he had no control over this.

Physical changes We all heard the rumours as to why he Michael has changed so much over the years, however what I want to talk about is the possible reasons for the changes. From the picture above you will see a well to do, average black teenager who many girls loved and adored. Then over a period of years you see someone or something you'd only see in a film. What happened? What caused this? His childhood, pressure, the media, fans? Your guess is as good as mine. During the period of the album 'Thriller' and 'Bad' there were obvious changes to Michael such as the curly hair instead of the Afro and the lighter skin but it was alright when compared to the follow up. The big change happened when the video for 'Black or White' came out. I mean this was a different Michael. Still we did not take much notice as it was just Michael. He just couldn't do no wrong. There was mention of his suffering from a skin disease called Vitiligo, though many did not believe that this justified his extreme change. All these external changes were obvious signs that all was not well internally for the legend. Despite his shortcomings, fans still love him and will forever do so. There are hundreds if not thousands who want to look like the star which shows how influential he was and is, even after his passing.

Despite what the media helped to make of MJ, he did a lot of good such as donate to several charities. He also did several songs , such as 'earth song and 'They don't really care about us' so there was something in Michael that shows some form of defiance on how the world operates. With regards to his personality, I did not know him personally to speak on it. I just believe the media has created and honed his eccentricity and use it a money making tool. The world and the media will miss an icon, I do not believe we will miss his music as it is going nowhere, you will still hear his songs and see his videos, even more so now than maybe two years ago. He is now a true legend. RIP MJ
