When we talk about repressive societies, countries such as Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Cuba and even Zimbabwe comes to mind. Seldom will you hear the names of western countries such as Britain and the United states being mentioned in such conversations. In this editorial I will highlight the repressiveness of 'democratic' and 'free' societies and how it is being run solely by the government without the people's interests at hand. These government systems will try to justify their repressiveness by 'this and that' new law. I see this no different from other dictatorships who makes decisions without the people's consent. I will give you my analysis of how I see some democratic states not practising what they are preaching.
Dictated the War in Iraq
This one really shows that there is a thin line between democracy and dictatorship. Millions of people marched in London protesting the proposal togo to Iraq to destroy the country looking for Saddam Husain. The people vividly made their intentions known I'm sure millions of Britons did not go marching through central London saying 'Yes go to war'. The people clearly made their views known with banners and said no to war, 'don't go to Iraq' on their banners . Everyone knows what happened after that!. The powers that be dictated to the people. They simply ordered the war by saying 'We are going to Iraq whether you like it or not because I and my friends said so!' Is this not dictatorship? Now the Iraq situation is getting out of hand and they don't know what to do. You should have listened to the people!' as it is them you serve, not the other way round. They vote for you so you should do as you are told! Well that's how I think it should be! This really taught me a lesson when it comes to elections Don't Vote'. They all just want your permission to make your lives worse.
Council Tax
The very basic human right that everyone should have to live free is being taken away from us. Since the Poll tax was introduced by Margaret Thatcher some 30 years ago, dictatorship in England hasn't looked back. The people did stand up for themselves with banners and said no 'we don't want the Poll Tax (council tax) but the dictators said 'sorry but I said it so guess what you are having it!, I don't care what you say', now Britons and people the world over tend to accept any excrement their governments propose. How many of you out there can hardly pay your bills, mortgage/rent and council tax which is about £1000 a year. Where does our council tax go? National Health Service?
TV License
We are paying an extra bill because a particular television station doesn't want to play advertisements like the rest. We the people must pay for it, according to the state. Some of us don't even watch the channel! If you don't pay this license then you'll get a £1000 fine. Isn't that repressive? This really makes me sick. People cannot even enjoy their wages in these repressive states.
Parking Fines
It seems as if road tax is not enough as there are paid parking bays everywhere now. Yes my Nigerian brothers and sisters, you do get on my nerves are you can't wait to issue parking tickets to everyone.! (Thanks Nytram for driving my car away in time before that warden clocked us, I saw him chasing the car in anger as if he let us got away, he lost out on some commission I guess !lol). Back to you traffic wardens I know you work on commission as they give you more money if you issue more tickets. This is not really fair on us motorists is it? When you see someone who seems as if they cannot afford a fine right now, why don't you just let them go for once? We are in the struggle too! Why is it that they only give Africans this job? Is it because they are the only ones brave enough to take it? I'm sick and tired of having a special lookout for African traffic wardens with that ugly uniform! If I was you I'd quit that job asap as they can't even give you something decent to wear! The authorities will do anything to rob law abiding citzens of their money.
