This one is mainly for African people i.e. all black people around the world born in and outside of Africa. Whether you are a black person from North America,Central America, Caribbean, or Europe. Also people who are half black etc or those who have any African DNA in them. Don't get all crazy now! This is not a racist article people! This one is about a Christmas alternative from an African perspective. As you know Christmas is on its way and people are breaking their necks to go and buy presents for everyone. They are thinking about what they should do for Christmas this year? What are they going to eat? How drunk they will get? How much sex they will have? etc Most people will celebrate Christmas forgetting the very meaning that it was meant to have i.e. celebrate the birth of Jesus. Many will go out and join in the fun, spend! spend! and spend! Then in January when everything goes half price they cannot even afford to go shopping! I see this Christmas thing more like a money making opportunity than 'the celebration of the birth of the saviour of the world' and everyone is in on it; from the government, businesses straight down to the consumers, even me sometimes! Don't get me wrong I really like the Christmas period as it is one of the rare occasions when I can relax, sometimes I wish it was longer so I can get more time off work. On Christmas and Boxing days the roads are so quiet and you can drive anywhere you want, without the traffic getting on your nerves, plus its a time to spend time with your friends and family. I'm no scrooge but Christmas is now celebrated for the wrong reasons (in my opinion) by almost everyone including Christians who indeed should know better! Some will go out and dress like Santa Claus and tell their children a whole lot of BS about how Santa will give them presents in the morning etc. Why not tell your child that Santa is not real! Better yet, why not tell them that Santa is Satan and all he wants to do is to get children to sit on his lap. Yes tell them Santa is a paedophile! But no you're in on the scam too!
For those of you who have similar sentiments as yours truly then it is not all doom and gloom. Africans, there is a better way to celebrate this time period. Instead of drinking and partying and doing all manner of evil to celebrate what? Jesus? I don't think true Christians would be happy about that! I'm going to tell you about an Alternative to Christmas (x-mas) which you could celebrate. This alternative is KWANZAA. For all African/black Christians or whatever religion you are this is not a religion nor some underworld cult mystery evil thing attacking your faith! because I know too well how some of you can get when the good old ignorance kicks in. Kwanzaa is not about drinking, smoking or even partying. Read on... The days that Kwanzaa is celebrated are 7 days starting on December 26 and ending on January 1. These are African Remembrance Days which have seven principles which are;
Umoja Unity: Success starts with Unity. Unity of family, community, nation and race.
Kujichagulia Self-Determination To be responsible for ourselves. To create your own destiny.
Ujima Collective work and responsibility:To build and maintain your community together. To work together to help one another within your community.
Ujamaa Collective economics: To build, maintain, and support our own stores,establishments, and businesses.
Nia Purpose: To restore Africans worldwide to their traditional greatness. To be responsible to Those Who Came Before (our ancestors) and to Those Who Will Follow (our descendants).
Kuumba - Creativity: Using creativity and imagination to make your communities better than what you inherited.
Imani: Faith
