It has now become the norm to hear about gun crime among young black people and think nothing of it, well until it affects someone who is close to us. Recently a friend of mine died due to this epidemic and it seems as if the victims and perpetrators are becoming younger as time passes. Former Prime Minister Tony Blair in my opinion quite rightly said 'let's not pretend' it's not the black folks doing it. I could not disagree with that statement though I would appreciate it more if he cared to expand on the whole topic and speak about guns, where they are coming from and who made them etc. After saying that the guns are coming in freely in our communities, however it is our own people, increasingly our young teenagers using it to harm or even kill each other. This raises the question is there a stigma of self hatred in the black community among black people? I will answer the question and say yes there is self-hatred in the black community! It may sound ridiculous to you but this all stem from slavery in my opinion. The only new thing is that the perpetrators are the usual suspects (another black person) who will lynch another black person with the usual weapon, a gat. So we can now say the gun is the 'new-school' way of lynching black people, mainly young black males...It seems everything is now turned on its head...
The worrying thing about gun crime among blacks is that it is getting worse and there is no sign that it will cease. I believe gun crime among black folks should be somehow bizarre as these are the same people who went through slavery at one time who are now at each other's throats. I thought issues like (slavery and colonisation) would make the blacks/Africans stronger as our fore parents went through hell so we can live freely today. It seems we do not appreciate the sacrifices they made for us. Then again some of our fore parents were real snitches and slave catchers. So I guess not all of us stem from good seeds...Today I can see no sense of brotherhood (or sisterhood if you like) or loyalty in our communities with each section being divided by religion, gangs and politics and to be accepted in those fraternities you have to do what exactly they do. I mean there is no sense of allegiance among the black race that transcends all these things I just mentioned.
Like a herd of sheep the often-ignorant blacks seem to do as they are told by some evil being whom they think doesn't exist. It is not rocket science for people to know who is pulling the strings behind every single black on black murder or atrocity committed everyday in our so-called civilised society. The only reason why the black community is mostly affected is that they have been specifically targeted to act a certain way. I keep saying that the MTV, BET and all other mediums that portray black in a negative light does not help the situation but so does these Hollywood movies with gun swinging movie stars pointing guns at the cameras. A young misguided person will look at that and get all too fascinated with what they see on TV that they will act it out in real life without even knowing it's the TV they watch, the albums they listen to that influences them to think in such a brutal way.
The fact is that the manufacturing and selling of guns is huge business where they are used to destabilise poor countries and cause divide among people regardless of race. Then this will give someone real 'smart' or 'evil' to go to that country and take the resources freely while the inhabitants continue to fight against each other and not seeing the bigger picture. We now live in a world where money values more than life as most killings are due to people in poverty who want to survive and achieve something in life. Most do not have any other option than to rob someone, after doing this a few times there is no morale to any story as the criminal just want to get money for his next meal or money to buy whatever he wants. What I don't get is when some spoilt young black child do not get everything they want in a so called 'civilized' society they claim they are poor and from the ghetto and disenfranchised so they turn to crime. To find real ghettos and see real poverty you will need to go as far as you can away from Europe, where some people do not know where their next meal is going to come from, they do not get job seekers allowance or any form of benefit from the government, they or their parents do not have jobs, they might not even have various different items of clothing, they probably have one or two. Then if it is not poverty, what is it then? If you read my 'Mothers Against Gunz' article you will see why I think there is such a big problem with young blacks in our society. I say 'blame the parents' yet I wouldn't be entirely right, as the pressure for a lone parent (often single mothers) to raise a young man is enormous. My other question is 'Is black man in general grown up? When I hear rappers 35 years old rapping about hanging their jeans low and hanging a blue flag out their back pockets then I believe something is seriously wrong.
I believe if a national program is developed to teach all young black children about their history and how they end up in the different countries they are then it would give them a sense of belonging and pride and they would want to carry on the rich history and achievement that their ancestors started. Let me just point out that slavery is just a meagre part of black history and people in general should be smart enough to know this. If young black children could be taught about the Imhoteps and Amenhoteps and the Khufus (King Narmer), Queen Tiye, Queen Nzingas and the countless other great achievers and contributors to world history then they would be proud to know that they are from a people of great achievements. Instead they are bombarded with the negative associations to their race whether it is; slavery, drugs, black on black crime or demonising anything African. After a while the message will get through to these young black children that they are 'a bunch of worthless people' so they should aim to be something better in other words something different. Then no wonder when two black strangers( often young men) look at each other they start screwing their faces, face fighting each other, as they do not like what they see. Then you will see the Nigerians and Jamaicans, black-French and other Africans worldwide 'bleaching' their faces to look lighter as they believe people will look at them with more respect if they get rid of their black skin. So I would be right in saying that the black community on a whole has suffered a mental breakdown over the years, forgetting their history, not knowing who they are (were), not trusting or liking anyone who looks like them. All these and many more deficiencies in the black community (if there is one) are the result of all the atrocities happening today. We have a habit of blaming others for our misfortunes, however I think its time for us to know that we can choose our own destiny based on the decisions we make.
You may read this and think 'WHAT DOES THIS ARTICLE HAVE TO DO WITH GUN CRIME?' You would be surprised to know that every little even those you would refer to as irrelevant are the most integral in the making of how we think as individuals. Only us can reduce and eventually stop gun crime as the people in position of power cannot stop it as it is not in their best interests. It is time for each and every parent of a black child to take more responsibility of how their children's lives are going as I believe the parents are the key in solving this riddle of crime among black people in general. Sadly the hope for most adults is gone however we have the chance of nurturing our children the way we want them to turn out. We haven't been doing so correctly years past so it is time for groundbreaking thinking in growing up our children. This means far-reaching change is needed for a better tomorrow.
Peace
