I am writing this piece to pay homage to someone who I believe is one of the most influential persons ever to grace this earth. This man re-united Upper and Lower Egypt after years of division. I will try to explain the two lands and how it was reunited by the great African. Legendary African King Menes aka Pharaoh Narmer Menes of the 1st Dynasty is the person I will mention in this piece.
First things first let me just tell you that there was no Egypt before King Menes united Upper and Lower Egypt, today's 'Arab Republic of Egypt' was called Kemet, which basically means Land of the Blacks, land of the burnt faced people. As the River Nile runs from South Ethiopia (Upper Egypt) which is the beginning of the Nile that runs up north to Lower Egypt (today's Arab republic of Egypt). Lower Egypt was inhabited by mostly black Africans. Their proportion decreased but not by much. This was due to trade between the Africans and the outside world, which occurred at the mouth of the Nile. As time passed Asians and Arabs increased in numbers around the Nile Delta and controlled the trading points and settled in Lower Egypt thus forcing the Africans to move south (Sudan). Africans were still the majority in Lower Egypt but they were threatened by the foreigners as they looked to increase their stronghold.
As the foreigners invaded the Nile Delta in 'Northern' Ethiopia (today's Arab Republic of Egypt) the Africans took action and wanted to reclaim their 'Egypt'. This would happen but not without a fight. The blacks had several victories but their presence wasn't really felt until African King Menes (Narmer) defeated the foreigners and locked down the ends with his people. All of Egypt was now under African rule once again and the very first Dynasty in Egypt was started. He founded the city called Memphis, which became the main area of black power in this North African country. This time period was around 3100 BC.
I would like to salute King Menes as this African took matters in his own hands, he reclaimed his country and unified it after the foreigners divided it. This man also started the first dynasty in Egypt, something which people usually forget. Yes he started the lineage system, king of the first Dynasty that paved the way for many great African Kings. All those huge sculptures and artefacts are due to Menes' unification of the 'two lands'. He started to build the greatest civilisation this world has ever seen. So great that a whole science (subject) is named after this country which he formed. This science is known as Egyptology. Who can say they have done similar deeds. Although Egypt is now run by Arabs, King Narmer's work will not be forgotten. He is the reason why Egypt is so great, so mythical. I also believe that the conflict in Sudan today (2006) is somehow related to the same problem the Africans had when foreigners took control of the Nile Delta a long time ago. If you read through history and analyse the news today, you will see similarities. We will forever remember King Menes and regard him as one of the greatest King and most influential persons the world has ever seen.
