Applaud our role models

Well I didn't know what to call this article, so I decided to call it ‘Applaud’, reason being Friday 27th June 2008 had to be the first night in a long time that I have seen so many positive black role models shown on television. With all the negative attention that black males are receiving from the media at present it was nice to see some positivity shown on television regarding African folks.

The first figure that was shown was Nelson Mandela as the great man turns 90. It was nice to see acknowledgement from the press and London as his birthday was celebrated on ITV. I wish Nelson Mandela a personal Happy Birthday; for all that he has done for people not just in South Africa but Internationally. Then to my surprise but also to my pleasure my all time favourite Hip Hop icon was interviewed on the Jonathan Ross programme on BBC 1. I am talking about none other than the 50 million album selling JAY Z. Again it was nice to see and hear another positive black role model on television not just on a music channel but being interviewed and speaking positively about his life and music.

Following this, one of the greatest Actor's alive today also on the same show, Will Smith was talking about his new film Hancock which I haven't seen yet but will definitely be taking a look at . Again another one of my idols was expressing his feelings and how he has become an International icon and Oscar nominee.

Both were talking about what has driven them to success and both stated it was the fear of being broke, which I know many people can relate to. This fear has driven them so much that they have been able to turn it into success.

Once again Nytram keeps it short and sweet and urge you to strive for what you believe in and aim high and when you feel you have reached that high, aim higher.
