'Sometimes it's good to complain'
DP

The act of complaining is not strange to us as every day some of us complain about several things most of which are irrelevant and stupid to say the least. If we shed light on issues worth complaining about then our lives will be much easier. For example if someone in a private a public institution offends you and in doing so goes against an act in the legislation of that country then you should be aware that as a person or a consumer, you have certain rights and if you feel offended or cheated you should make a complaint.

For example I was wrongfully arrested a couple years ago, they kept me in a cell for a couple of hours all because they thought I was a criminal on the run. Despite me showing them my driver's licence they did not accept it as proof of my identity. I complained about the officers and got a record put against all the officers involved. They received a record against their names for the remainder of their time at the London metropolitan police. I also received a letter of apology. I was stopped by a completely different set of police while driving home a few weeks later. After I told them my name and the story of me being wrongfully arrested before one of the police officers said 'Oh it's you' and sent me on my way. This shows me that due to my complaint they must have had a meeting of some sort to take care when arresting people.

More recently I saw at a retail shop, a blackberry advertised on sale at a certain price outside a mobile phone store, I went in to purchase the item and I took out my card to pay for it they lady said that will be £300 please' (not the right price). I hesitated and told her no as the item is advetised at the front the store for a lower price. I then took her outside to show her her the advertised price. She contacted the manager who told her to apologise to me but they cannot sell me at the advertised price? I thought to myself 'They must think I'm an idiot'. This was a long drawn out complaint as I sent in a letter of complaint to the company telling them that it was false advertising and against the Consumer Protection Act etc and they were not interested, however as soon as I told them that I would take it up with the trading standards (which I did after they thought I was bluffing) and sent a training barrister to give them a telephone call they quickly changed ther tune, they told me to come in and when I did they consistently apologised before giving me a discount on the item, Success!, not really the appropriate word is Justice!:)

I could go on about different complaints where I was rewarded with fairness in the end.On the other hand there are a few complaints which did not yield any results such as when I complained to my bank about the high overdraft charges I incurred as a student. After several months of a national court case, the government sided witht the banks which is why I did not get my money back. However I did not regret my complaint on the matter.

Many of us are unaware that we have been overtaxed over the years and can claim back these taxes and get a refund. If you are inthe UK And believe you have been overtaxed please contact the Inland revenue.

So instead of wasting your time complaining about topics which are neither here nor there, you should complain about the right things to the right people and you just might yield some results.
