The Hyphy Movement

Many of you who know your music will view Hyphy as new music or 'Crunk' but truth be told the Hyphy movement has been evolving for a while now and we haven't seen or heard it in its entirety just yet.

Let me give you a sneak preview of Hyphy then you can go research the rest for yourselves. First and foremost Hyphy music is not Dirty South Crunk as many are lead to believe. The San Francisco Bay area is known to be the birthplace of this movement as Bay Area rappers created, honed, and made popular their own music scene as I believe mainstream were not ready for them just yet. This type of music is known for its rough/gritty beats and high energy thumping snares.

The legendary Bay Area rapper E-40 carried this form of music, making it popular in his lyrics and catchy phrases. Other Bay area rappers who made this form of music popular are; Keak Da Sneak who claims the very name 'Hyphy' and the late Mac Dre. Hip Hop fans should have an idea of this form of music as Hyphy songs are constantly playing on Hip Hop shows. If you don't know what Hyphy music sounds like, Click Here For An Unofficial Video of a popular hyphy song 'Tell me when to go remix' by E-40 ft The Game etc.

Well known catch phrases of this movement are 'Hyphy' which means dancing outrageously or exaggeratedly on the dance floor, 'Get dumb', which basically means the same thing and 'Flamboasting' which means to show off.

Hyphy is not just music, it's a culture, the way you speak, the cars, the dance moves etc. This is really underground party music and mainstream just realised this is the new thing! This could be huge in the future if you notice how the music scene has evolved over the years. I believe this could be the new hip hop, maybe 10-20 years from now. What do you think about the Hyphy movement?
