I'm Rich Bitch!!!

It is now not surprising to find out that hip hop earners are now in the ranks of the Richest in America. With 'Diddy' and 'Fiddy' in the top 10 of the top biggest earners in hip hop, a few eyebrows will be raised when the figures are announced. Rap albums are selling well despite Internet piracy. Things have also changed dramatically, as not only albums are selling but the whole hip hop lifestyle. This is why we are now seeing Sean John and Rocawear as top brands next to Versace and Louie Vuitton.

'See the top 10 rich list'. This is capitalism at its best proving that you can be who you want to be, make a lot of money. Don't get it twisted it requires hard work and a huge amount of luck but hey! It's worth it right guys? (On the rich list)

I must commend and congratulate all those on the list as it is promising to see young black males raking in all that cash. These are potential role models as they now own their record labels, controlling the whole thing thus cutting out the middle old men. A few years back rappers were only used as bait (some today) to sell the albums and the rich old men would get all the cash. This trend is decreasing which is very good to know, as well needed money will help their poor families and friends who can now live happily ever after. Lets face it, not long ago if someone told you that a black man would have nearly half a billion dollars in their bank a/c in America you would probably 'bitch slap' them right! Now you'd be guaranteed a slap if you don't recognise that hip hop is now a major force to be reckoned with. These black entrepreneurs are providing black consumers with alternatives, they can now ignore the Tommy Hilfigers and the Timberlands and reverse the whole thing on its head and let other cultures buy black merchandise.

The other side of the fairytale?

There are no coins without two sides so let me just flip it and talk about the bad side of the money! Some of these moguls simply do not give back enough to their communities, well that's just my opinion. I know they give to charities but come on! We know the story about charities right? Instead they floss millions of dollars on their fingers, on their teeth showing off on poor you and me, while probably their poor cousin is struggling, on welfare in the projects. I saw MTV cribs showcasing these entertainers' big houses and cars. For the people watching this constantly and recording it, please go find a job to make some loot for yourselves as these entertainers are doing just that, now go and get yours! The problem with MTV cribs is that when young black males (the daft ones) see this, they will probably go and rob their fellow POOR BLACK folk to get that same wealth they saw on MTV cribs.

My take on the whole thing

Being the sceptic that I am, I cannot help but wonder if these cats are really making all that money without any strings attached. Are they only making a tiny percentage (340 mil) of the money? While the rich old white men are raking in the other 90% of the pie (billions)? If this is the case then I would be very upset, as this is blatant exploitation on the poor entrepreneurs!

To balance things out why can't MTV air a programme called 'Grimy Cribs' where they show some of the grimiest, dirty houses in America and around the world. I'm sure this would be a hit as the rich crib owners could now help the poor crib owners. Well Pimp My Ride is a good start indeed! So well done MTV!

With the amount of money these black moguls and black sports stars have. I'm sure they can come together and put 2% of their money together and do some real help in the black communities in the US and around the world. What a difference that would make! I reckon they could collectively run a small country in Africa successfully. That's just me thinking too big. Some of us are comfortable showing off to the poorer ones 'look what I have! You don't have this!' That's what slavery did to us, mind you we are just recovering from that so things can only get better.
