You Better Pay Up

I was browsing through 'The London Paper' looking for an interesting article to read. I turned one page and saw a smiling Thierry Henry and his ex wife. The article was about the soccer star's divorce from model Claire Merry and how she might receive a huge part of his estimated £25 million fortune. The couple who were married for 4 years have a two-year-old daughter, who will be the one missing out on this deal in my opinion.

The current laws are increasingly working against the highest earners. The various media outlets reported that the Thierry walked out on the marriage that might have upset his former wife. This might be why the former Arsenal striker quickly went to Spain to Join Barcelona. Even if the guy walks out on the marriage is it really worth £10 million? Kanye West's single was released two years after this couples wedding so Thierry couldn't have known things would turn out this way. No 'I aint saying she's a gold digger' but the footballer must be thinking to himself 'She hasn't kicked a ball but she might be getting what?!' In real terms it does not seem fair for a person to have their wealth cut in half because they happen to cut ties with their former spouse for whatever reasons. However one might say that if someone was promiscuous and is the main reason for the failure of the marriage then they should pay for this and if money is the best payment then so be it. After saying that common sense should prevail as these footballer wives often come into the marriage with nada only to be requesting half the footballers wealth.

Common law couples living together for over five years are not exempt from this rule as they can have the same rights as married couples.

Some will say be careful of who you get married to but who will think about that when they are in love? The thing is one should contemplate this when a lot of money is involved. Furthermore marriage should be one of the most important things in life and if someone is not ready for that lifestyle then they should not rush into anything especially if they have all the riches in the world and settling down is not in their mindset. My take on the whole thing is if you are the wealthier person you have to be smart about whom you get involved with because money change people believe it or not. If I was Ashley Cole, Jermaine Defoe or John Terry I'd be real careful and try not to upset their other halves. Something just came to mind when writing this piece. Why do all these rich black footballers in the UK when they excel to the top of their game marries someone white, not a Black or even Asian person but just one specific colour. A matter of fact most black professionals who excelled in their careers and went to the top of the ladder put the icing on the cake with the big white wedding? We see black Member of Parliaments doing this plus other famous celebrities. Just a burning question I have. I think this is worth looking into, maybe another article?. Lets just stick to the point here. With regards to the Henry situation, I do hope that he proves to be an example to any other young rising soccer star or any other person who's bank balances are high.

I am no expert at relationships furthermore marriage however my advice would be do not rush into anything unless you know the person a very long time and all the other issues concerning someone who you are considering spending the rest of your life with.
