After a recent comment in the news from the 8th and current FIFA president Joseph "Sepp" Blatter, that footballers are treated these days like slaves, Nytram had to comment, as football being one of my strong points, I had to comment. With players earning ridiculous amounts these days I don’t know how the President of FIFA can state that of all players Chrisiano Ronaldo is being treat like a slave beceause he is not allowed to leave at his own free will.
Firstly Christiano Ronaldo plays for the richest club in the world and is paid over £100,00 per week ,Is that slavery? come on. I think footballers these days are too greedy and have no concept of money.
The whole issue started just before the European Championships in Switzerland and Austria in June 2008 .When the media interviewed Ronaldo asking whether he was happy at Manchester United and if he wanted to play for Real Madrid. Ronaldo stated that Madrid was a big club and as a boy he dreamed of playing for them (Like any budding footballer would). What followed was a media frenzy and a bombardment from Real Madrid stating that they were prepared to pay up to £76million for his services. A slave? No way.
If you want to talk about slavery in football, the closest you will get is Emmanual Adeybayor playing for Arsenal earns 30k per week and scored 30 goals last season the same amount of goals as a certain Fernando Torres who plays for Liverpool and earns 90k per week. Emmanual stated that he wants an iproved contract to match that of Torres and Arsenal stated that it will not be matched as their wage budget is known to be low. Now in the real world if someone does the same job as you, wouldn’t you expect to earn the same wage?
My view is, if footballers want to leave their clubs they should do like us hand in a notice period of a minimum of 6 months, this way clubs and players alike are treated fairly. Sepp Blatter needs a reality check and should ask himself why aren’t doctors and nurses people who save lives paid ridiculous amounts of money for what they do. Sepp you should be ashamed calling footballers slaves they are not taken from their homeland, branded or forced to work in hurrendous conditions, they live like kings.
