Born Miguel Collins and hails from Judgement Yard, August Town Jamaica, Sizzla is one of, if not the most consistent, respected and versatile artistes to come out of the island since he hit the scene over ten years ago. He is pure talent as this is only one of the many words and phrases used to describe him. Many would look at him as man that upholds righteousness and shun evil according to his songs. After saying that you will hear Sizzla's wrath in his songs, for example if he is angry you will know about it, if he is sad you will hear it in his songs, if he's happy you will hear it etc. He also caters for the mood of the people in his lyrics. He is the definition of being an artiste who shows you how he sees the world.
Sizzla has released over 30 albums to date and it seems he is not stopping anytime soon. He signed with Damon Dash Music group last year and is looking to take the US charts by storm by dropping an album titled 'Overstanding' with the Damon Dash Music group. I saw him on BET and he had the crowd 'eating out his hands' on a 5 minute set. Yes Kalonji is taking it to the mainstream without even compromising his message despite what some people might think. One of the best on-stage performers you could ever witness will constantly stop to teach and educate his audience about Africa and his Rasta way of life during his concerts and stage shows . It does not even matter about your colour, he will tell you about his African Pride as well as; injustices against black African people worldwide. He is continuously 'throwing fire' on all 'evil', which is anything that is anti nature. This guy is pro life, against all forms of senseless killing amongst the black community and the whole world. This young veteran has proved over and over again why he is the best conscious reggae/dancehall entertainer from Jamaica. From a soft and peaceful 'Black Woman and Child to a romantic 'Da Real Thing' to a 'Ghetto Revolution', Sizzla has many moods. He is mostly in the spotlight as the authority does not like 'the fire' when he throws it on them. One of his main phrases is to 'bun babylon', which just means; to demote and tear down the establishment, i.e. everything that slavery built, the police, the government, the prisons, everything that is for the detriment of black African people.
Sizzla is often misunderstood by people who do not know enough about him and what he stands for; Love, Righteousness, Peace, and denounce all evil things. He uses his music to send this message.
Like most Rastafarians Sizzla is a Pan African whose desire is for Africa to be free from foreigners and for black people to see it as home and should go and purchase the land and live there. Sizzla will use his profits from stage shows to bring back to his community and help people who need it. A ghetto revolutionary as well as caring he shows the people how to live upright. Yet he is the protector of the ghetto youths as you will hear in his lyrics.
Known as a conscious reggae artiste and sounds excellent on acoustic Nyabingie drums, still Miguel can rip any hip hop instrumental to pieces with his lyrics and melodies. It sounds so refreshing to dancehall and Hip Hop Fans alike. Since I was a teenager I've been following this warrior and to see him grow despite all the hate he gets from certain people, he is still reaching having success. They can't keep a good man down.
We at TWRTODAY wish him all the success in his venture with DD Music group and hope his albums can go mutli platinum. Not because of the money but for the education his album entails and the message and of course some of that money can go back to Africa and Judgement yard to build infrastructure etc.
We salute Sizzla Kalonji and hope he continues to do great things. The future is only bright for this artiste so look out! Go and support his cause by buying his new album 'Overstanding' in stores Now!
