A United States of Africa?

Pan Africans have been talking about this for decades, for the world to see one African government, a 'United States of Africa'. President of Libya Gadaffi spoke about this at a summit being held in Ghana. I think this is quite interesting and is worth taking more seriously as this might be the answer to Africa's various problems.

As you know over the years Africa has been divided by Europeans as they went to the separate parts of the 'Land of the Blacks' to take its wealth to build up their different European countries such as Belgium, France and England. These African countries now have these European languages as their main tongues, which further divides the people of Africa. To put it mildly, there are huge divisions/problems in Africa ranging from religion to politics so a United Africa will be difficult to achieve, still it is possible.

How great it would be for Africa to be one major state made up of several states similar to the United States of America. A united Africa where Swahili is taught in every school. How great would that be! The centralisation of power among other countries is not uncommon as we have the European Union. Maybe it is only right for Africa to centralise all their efforts into one common goal, come together for the well being for all Africans because the way things are at the moment is proving to be detrimental.

Problems will start if they elect a nutcase for president of Africa, then everyone would have to put up with his/her extreme ideas or ideologies whether it is about religion or race. A few things about this whole United States of Africa worries me as it was the same Gadaffi who was first was talking about the coming together of the Arab world when he first came on the scene, even though Libya is in Africa. Now he is talking about the coming together of all African countries. I echo the latter sentiment, however why is he talking about this now? Another problem is that I see this 'new world order' thing and think to myself 'if Africa becomes one, we already have the EU,and there is already a United States then what next, A One world government?' Then there is also that historical struggle between native Africans and Arabs plus the other immigrants for the control of Africa. If you read your history enough then you would know why Egypt is now called the Arab republic of Egypt and the conflict presently going on it Sudan.

As Africa is the Land of the Blacks then it would only be right for Africa to be ruled by a proficient black African leader to represent the majority of the people of Africa. Just as how you won't find a black Prime Minister of England or a black president of the USA (I know what you are thinking, What about Obama?).Thats another article so let's just stick to the point here. Power struggles will be inevitable however this African union of countries could work if logic is used without racism, religion or any ideologies to impose on the people of Africa as 'there is enough on their plate as it is' Aids famine, you name it!

The fact that we are talking about a United Africa can only be good news for the people of Africa. If a union of the governments of Africa centralise into something bigger then I believe Africa can control their resources directly and be a superpower in the world as they were in the past. They would be able to protect their countries from those who want to destroy it. No doubt if African Union is acted upon, problems will come from the G8 who would want to remain G8. I believe a successful, prospering Africa is not in the interest these rich countries today so I wouldn?t be surprised if they went against this proposal of a United States of Africa. This is because they have their own agenda?s and ideas on how they want the world to run so we will have to get over all these problems.

This could be a great step in the development for Africa, more importantly for the well being of African people from South Africa straight up to Egypt, even African's overseas.
